Entry fee versus total tour cost is the most common budgeting mix-up. The park fee buys your legal access to the marine park for the day. It does not include the boat, the guide, gear, or lunch, that's the tour price on top.

A $39 tour that already bundles the park fee is not more expensive than a $35 tour that adds $7 to $20 at the dock, it's the same total, just disclosed differently.

Total: roughly $340 to $410 depending on child pricing and whether VISITAX is already settled.

• Group size and privacy: a shared 2-hour Puerto Morelos co-op trip from the town dock can run as low as 350 to 500 MXN (about $20 to $29), while a private hotel-pickup version of the same reef runs $97 to $199 per person on a sliding scale, cheapest at 10-plus people
• Duration and stops: a 2.5-hour two-reef trip starts around $45; the 7-hour 5-in-1 format that adds MUSA, a shipwreck and a cenote runs $79
• MUSA add-on: MUSA-specific tours typically start around $75, plus a separate $20 USD dock fee and a $5 refundable locker deposit collected in cash at check-in

• Mid-range: the Isla Mujeres sailing trip at $55 adds a catamaran, food and drink service, and a full half-day out. What you're paying for is the boat experience itself, not just the snorkeling
• Premium: the 5-in-1 tour at $79 stacks reef, MUSA, a shipwreck, a cenote and hotel pickup into one seven-hour day. It's the best value per stop, but it's also the longest day, not ideal if you want to be back by lunch

No dive or snorkel shop in Puerto Morelos publishes a standalone daily rental rate for mask, snorkel, and fins, we checked several operators directly and found none. If you want to skip a guided tour and rent gear on your own, you'll arrange it in person around the town square, and the price is negotiated on the spot rather than posted.
